Only 30 seconds from Nepean Hwy, allowing easy access to Mornington Peninsula attractions such as Peninsula Hot Springs, Red Hill food and wine, Mornington itself, Arthurs seat etc. Our picks and recommendations for the region are Red Hill Brewery (lunch looked great too), Phaedrus wines (cellar door open weekends only) and the Peninsula Hot Springs. Though neither was spot on with their food, Max's restaurant at Red Hill Estate (complimentary freshly baked bread with olive oil, a superb vinegaratte and dukkah, tasty steak and jus but came with potato instead of the anticipated artichoke with no explanation, superbly textured crispy skinned trout of the day on cous cous but lacked flavour, excellent standout apple dessert) easily trumped Montalto (bread and their own freshly released olive oil, then entree started well with some succulent scallops and an impossibly good souffle, for mains an underwhelming rabbit fricassee and a veal and jus dish that was a little cold in the middle lacking anything special except for the yummy roasted gnocchi, and an interesting poached quince and gingerbread icecream dish served with the ice cream rapidly melting into the warm fruit) and the view was better at Max's.
